Their expansion in several avenues of the IT industry has surprised many due to their long history of sticking to projects that work for them best like their OS systems, Office and other back-end systems. Even publicly announcing that they would be opening their doors once again to some of their key technologies for competitors to use allowing inter operation of their systems with Microsoft’s (which isn’t the first time they have done so). With a new CEO on the helm, it could signal a change in strategy as they test the waters of other ventures while fending off open sourced competitors from getting on their nerves.
