The move to accommodate all and we do mean all aspects of the diverse computing environment may be too much for the industry to handle. The flexibility it promises is outweighed by the resulting size of changes they say are necessary for the system to work. Detractors are crying foul in what they call is another large scale fiasco by big businesses who by promoting and using them drags the rest of us with them just so you can continue to use them. This might be a classic case similar to the hardware and software developer fiascos where chip makers release or delay their release of newer technology till big developers get around to using their computers and the trend works the other way round too. So the future of XML is looking bumpy as the debate goes on in the never ending quest to attain a perfectly stable yet flexible platform which could be the face of the internet in the years to come.
