With talk of the release of Windows 7 already in the air, with it comes news that Mr. Ballmer has hinted on the software giant’s entry into the cloud computing mix. Several companies have been working on their own ventures to develop hardware and software models that would become the future of computing. Internet-based computing or cloud-computing has programs and data it uses stored into the virtual cloud or internet where people now pay only for the resources and time they use rather than to purchase, deploy and maintain their own data centers.
It has been pointed out that there is a long way to go before the true concept of cloud computing is realized for with the several companies developing their own cloud-concepts comes several views on what form it should take. Security is one of the major differences for with the data and programs co-existing in the same virtual space, who has the power to police the vast expanse that is not only very wide indeed but also dynamic, shifting from data center to data center based on demand.
Cloud computing may well be the future indeed but more work is to be done to take the designs from concept to working models. There are cloud-based systems being used today and they are being used as test-beds to improve on the technology that can be compared to a baby learning to balance and them walk. And like that baby, from crawl to standing and them walking and running is the true cycle which the industry has to take for them to get it off, into the clouds indeed.
